What Is
Hypnosis ? Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that we
enter throughout the day. You may have entered this trance-like
state when traveling along a familiar route, while watching
television or even during a meeting. Suddenly you snap back to the
present moment and realise you’ve been on “autopilot” for the last few
minutes. Hypnotherapy uses techniques to deepen the hypnosis state
and relax you deeply. It is quite common for clients to say things
like "I can't remember when last I felt so relaxed".
Relaxation is one thing, but much more significant are the benefits that
stay with you on an ongoing basis.
What It Is
Not It is important to realise that you are always in
control - you’ll still be able to think and be aware of what is
happening. This is very, very different from stage hypnosis.
You will not have to reveal anything private you don’t want to, you will not be
“manipulated” and you can terminate a session any time you want just by
opening your eyes.
Is Hypnosis
Safe? Hypnosis is completely
safe. You are in control and can terminate the session at any
time. Hypnosis is not sleep nor can you get ‘stuck’ in a state of
hypnosis and you cannot be made to do something against your
will. It is a soothing, relaxing and enjoyable
experience. The American and British Medical Associations have
approved the use of hypnosis for more than 40 years.
What is
NeuroLinguistic Programming (NLP)? NLP has been described as the
new science of personal achievement but it is much more than that. It is a
highly effective methodology based on the belief that all behaviour has a
structure and that this structure can be changed. NLP provides a way
to rapidly and powerfully achieve specific desired goals and
results. By using precise language and nonverbal communication
systems to impact the way that experience and behaviour is
produced. This enables the skilled practitioner to help
clients organise information and perceptions in ways that allow them to
achieve results that were once inconceivable. In combination with the best
aspect of hypnotherapy, this boosts the effectiveness of treatments
dramatically. The speed of changes often astounds
people.
How Does
Hypnotherapy Work? When you have entered the
relaxed hypnosis state, from there we bypass the conscious mind and go
straight to the unconscious.
By doing so we can
eliminate unwanted ways of behaving and install more empowering behaviours
that you want. So whether you want to stop smoking, eat more
healthily, reduce stress or have more confidence, then you will find
hypnosis a great help. In the state of hypnosis it is very easy to
change the negative habits or behaviour patterns of a lifetime by
communicating with the unconscious.
There can
be a link between unwanted behaviours, feelings and deeply rooted issues.
In such cases the hypnotic processes I use can rapidly uncover and
help transform the causes of these. This paves the way for you to
consistently feel better and more in control of your life.
Will Hypnosis
Work For Me?
Generally every ‘normal’ person who can understand
language, without any mental disorders, can benefit from hypnosis.
How Will I Know
If I am Hypnotised? Many
people can not tell the difference between hypnosis and the waking
state. You certainly feel very relaxed during the process.
Afterwards clients are surprised at the automatic positive
changes in their daily behaviours and feelings. A
good hypnotherapist will have ways of checking that you are in a suitable
state and showing certain signs that you are in an altered
state.
How Does This Help Me Change Behaviours Like Smoking Or Eating Too
Much ? Smoking and many eating behaviours are habitual and controlled
by the unconscious mind. It makes sense to use advanced hypnosis to
work directly with the unconscious mind. This helps make healthy habits
automatic, so you are soon enjoying the benefits of a healthier more
rewarding lifestyle. As your thought patterns change, you find
yourself thinking and feeling positive and much more easily able to
maintain healthy behaviours.
What Is Advanced Hypnotherapy? There are a wide range of hypnotic
techniques, some more advanced than others, some better suited to certain
situations. Basic hypnotherapy is using suggestions to attempt to
change your subconscious mind's content. Some of the more advanced
techniques and neurolinguistic programming can more quickly and
effectively help eliminate the source of problems and help you to
change your thought processes. This contributes to faster, more
permanent changes. Many of the advanced techniques are effective in
clearing long-standing emotional and behavioural
problems.
How many sessions will I need? This depends very much on the issues
you're working on and your individual makeup. Smoking, nail-biting
and most phobias can be fully resolved in one or two sessions.
Other problem behaviours (eg binge eating) can be
symptomatically treated in a couple of sessions, which provides some
relief.
However in
those cases where there is a strong emotional component, including helping
chronic medical conditions, 4 to 8 sessions may be recommended to
heal the underlying issue and transform your emotional and behavioural
responses.
